Match Report | Fisher 1-3 Erith & Belvedere, SCEFL Premier, 27th September 2022 The Deres extended their 100% record to seven games, running out comfortable winners at Fisher. The victory was founded on three first-half goals, two from Nathan Palmer in the 3rd and 42nd minutes, separated by Rob Strachan's back post header from a right-side corner on 22. The away side did not have everything their own way however. On 9, new goalkeeper Callum Backhurst had to be substituted after coming off his line to thwart a one-on-one with an opposition forward. He fell awkwardly in the 50/50 challenge and looks to be set for a lengthy period on the sidelines, as aided by teammates, he was unable to put any weight on his left foot. He was replaced in goal by outfield player Fraser Walker, who performed creditably under the circumstances, as did his outfield replacement Tyrell Richardson, operating down the right flank. On 19, Fisher might have equalised when Zeddini put in a good cross from the left. Walker did well to get his hand to the ball to take it away from the attacker. The follow-up cross fell just short of Amgbaduba and went out for a goal kick. And after falling two behind, on 35, Fitzgerald lifted the ball just over the bar from a free kick. Shortly after, Usifoh was played through on goal, but his heavy touch enabled the Deres' replacement keeper to claim it. The game was effectively settled by Palmer's second goal, a spectacular effort from distance and an early candidate for goal of the season, which gave Fisher keeper Justice Owusu no chance. Fisher began the second half more strongly, and on 49, they pulled one back, following good work down the right. This led to a mix-up in the Deres' defence and Jacob Katonia was on hand to poke home from close range. Thereafter, the second half was more competitive than the first, but Fisher never seriously challenged the Deres. On 61, Deres might have pocketed a fourth, but for a great save from Owusu. At the other end on 83, Adewumni rattled the Deres' post with a header which might have led to a nervous last 10 minutes. But all was well, and the Deres saw out the remaining time to record a deserved victory. Written by Andy Pye |
