Glebe 1 Philpot 41
Erith and Belvedere 2 Adesite 9, Bennett 13
And then there were two. Deal Town and Erith Town are both out of contention after Saturday’s results, and a fourth win in five games leaves the Deres needing four points from the last three games – Tunbridge Wells away, Glebe at home and Canterbury away. It should be possible, but with Canterbury battling relegation none of them will be easy.
Deres started like an express train at Glebe, making chances in the opening few minutes. In the 4th Anthony Adesite miscued after Billy Bennett set him up; in the 8th Jahmal Howlett-Mundle headed just over from a corner, and the early pressure told in the 9th minute when Anthony Adesite headed in after Lewis Chambers’ throw caused chaos. Soon afterwards the roles were reversed as Adesite set up Billy Bennett for an unstoppable volley to make it 2-0 after just 13 minutes.
Five minutes later Prince Domafriyie went on a terrific run into the left of the box but nobody was there to meet his cross.
Glebe stemmed the Deres’ tide and had a couple of chances themselves, notably on 25 minutes when Michael Adepoju tested Damian Niemczycki with a ground shot. Then four minutes from half-time the always dangerous Jamie Philpot got on the end of a good ball and made no mistake. The interval came at 2-1 to Deres with Glebe making more territory as the half went on.
The second half saw little in the way of clear chances apart from Jahmal Howlett-Mundle volleying just wide in the 77th minute after a neat buildup. Glebe put on enough pressure to have the Deres worried, and Danny Lear was sent off for a second yellow, incurring a suspension Deres could do without, but although things got a bit hairy at the end the result is the thing and it was a crucial 3 points, all covered by the Achtung Millwall podcast featuring the Deres club secretary…
