MARTIN FORD R.I.P.

Erith and Belvedere FC is very sorry to learn of the death yesterday of Martin Ford.
Martin, a legend in local non-league football, joined the Deres as joint manager in difficult circumstances following the dissolution of the double-winning team in the summer of 2013. He and his backroom team put together a side that held its own in the Ryman League North in the opening months of 2013-14.
However Martin will be best remembered as perhaps the most inflluential figure in the history of VCD Athletic, who from the early 90s took the club from the Kent County League to become one of the mainstays of the Kent League. HIs work laid the foundations for the club's furter progress. As VCD's statement records: "His record and contribution is outstanding as, not only did he amass a number of cup final victories plus a league championship, but his vision and efforts laid the foundations of the excellent set-up that we have today."
Our thoughts are with Martin's family at this difficult time, and in particular his son Joe, who worked with his father during his time at Deres.
