The Opposing View - Erith Town v Erith & Belvedere, SCEFL Premier, Wednesday 16th November 2022
with Lee Taylor, Erith Town Media Manager
Nik: Summary of Erith Town’s season so far?
Lee: We were unlucky at the beginning of the season when we played Phoenix, as we played brilliantly that night, but after we beat Fisher, we went on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league - 13 in total, if you count the cup games. We had a mini rebuild this summer, after losing key players from last season, like Harry Gamble and Michael Power. But I believe we recruited well with the likes of Harry Taylor, Charlie Clover, Alfie Maisey and Ladic Melconian, who have all hit the ground running and it is definitely showing.
Nik: View on Erith & Belvedere’s season so far?
Lee: You never like to admit that your rivals are doing well, but with E&B under Tony Beckingham, they have been bossing the league so far and even bullying the teams tipped for promotion. They (Erith & Belvedere) are the dark horses in the SCEFL, and with players like Danny Lear, Nathan Palmer, Tyrell Richardson-Brown at The Deres, they will give teams a nightmare to play against. I hope Woody & The Dockers will burst the Beckingham bubble though!
Nik: Are you looking forward to “The Erith Derby?”
Lee: The “Erith Derby” is always a great game and one that myself and my friend, stadium manager Sam, look for when the fixtures come out. It is also good that “The Derby” is taken more seriously now, not just in the local area, but with the players and management teams. They can see what it means for both sets of supporters and long may it continue.
Nik: Prediction and thoughts on Wednesday night’s match vs Erith & Belvedere?
Lee: With how well both teams are doing in the league so far, it is sure to be an entertaining night at Erith Stadium and hopefully the attendance that night should be good. I know a few “groundhoppers” who are coming down to watch “The Erith Derby.” I’m hoping for a 3-1 win to The Dockers, with my man Steadman Callender getting a hat-trick and becoming the first player in Erith Town history to score 100 goals for the club - but I think it will be a 2-2 draw, with both sides giving it their all on the night!
Nik: Hopes for Erith Town’s season?
Lee: I really want to see the team lift some silverware in the Kent Senior or dare to dream The Vase, but mainly finish high in the league and continue growing the fan base both home and away.
Nik: Thanks for your time, Lee
