The Opposing View - Erith & Belvedere v Phoenix Sports, SCEFL Premier, 6 September 2022
with Billy Sullivan, Phoenix Sports Supporter & Kitman.
Your view of the first half?
In the first half I thought we struggled and didn’t really come out, I feel there were only two real chances in that first half and both were taken by Erith & Belvedere! It was clear to see that the Derby was going to get tasty and it was a shame that we were 2-0 down.
Your view of the second half?
Much better from Phoenix. I think being 2-0 down allowed Phoenix to come out and really battle, which again is a shame as we needed that battle in the first half. Marcus(Elliott) took his goal really well, getting in front of his man and we huffed and puffed, but it just wasn’t enough.
Thoughts on Erith and Belvedere’s team?
Strong. Last night it was two of the stronger sides in the division battling it out. Danny(Lear) was so energetic for the whole game and took his two chances, which in the end decided the game.
Have Phoenix had many changes over the off season?
Yes we have. Not only playing personnel, but the management team as well. Last year we were so close to pulling off the great escape, but we couldn’t get there! Coming into this SCEFL division for the first time in 8 years was intriguing for me as a fan and the signings Steve O’Boyle has made has excited most fans!
How do you think Phoenix will do this season?
I think it will be tough, but I have full faith in the Phoenix boys and Steve O’Boyle. A great FA Cup run so far and if we are victorious in the next round it equals the furthest we have ever gone! We are still in the FA Vase, which it would be great to get to Wembley if possible! It would be a dream come true (for every non-league club I am sure) and after 14 matches (friendlies and competitive games) we have only lost 2 games. I look forward to travelling down with the boys when we go to Lordswood to hopefully bounce back. GREEN ARMY!
