The Opposing View – Erith & Belvedere vs Sutton Athletic, SCEFL Premier, 4 March 2023
with Tristan Cropley, Sutton Athletic 1st Team Coach
Nik: How have you found your first season at this level so far and how does that compare with pre-season expectations?
Tristan: This is our 1st ever season at step 5. We gained promotion last season by winning the playoffs in SCEFL division 1.
Our expectations were to enjoy the season, give a good account of ourselves and not worry about the bottom 2-3 places in the league. So far so good...
Nik: What Sutton Athletic players should we watch out for?
Tristan: All of them…
Seriously though, Arlie Desanges goal scoring record stands out. 40+ goals last year and he’s already on 20 this year in all competitions
Nik: What do you know about Erith & Belvedere?
Tristan: A well established local club, excellent facilities and a great management team. Came across them in their SCEFL 1st Division days and have seen how the current management team has transformed their fortunes this season.
Nik: Thoughts on the game against Erith & Belvedere?
Tristan: Playing away to the best side in the division, the word “tough” doesn’t do it justice.
We have a distinctive way of playing and won’t deviate from that. I expect an entertaining game and I expect goals
Nik: Hopes for the rest of Sutton Athletic's season?
Tristan: For a club punching well above our weight a mid table finish would be a huge achievement. We are in the league cup semi final and would love to make the final, especially as this year is the clubs 125th birthday.
Nik: Thanks and see you on Saturday Tristan!
