DERES SOUNDLY SPANKED AT SHEPPEY
In front of a crowd of 413 – the biggest to watch a Deres game since the 503 v North Shields in 2015, the biggest away crowd since the 1005 at Guernsey in 2012 – Erith and Belvedere were soundly beaten by a Sheppey United team that’s setting the standard in the SCEFL this season, with only a 3-3 draw at Kennington keeping them from a 100% record.
Sheppey brushed aside the Deres 4-0 in a game that saw Malachi Hudson bag a hat-trick.
They started brightly and were ahead inside the first five minutes – Junior Aikhionbare passing out left to Hudson who hit a curler into the corner of the net for 1-0.
On the half hour mark the Ites doubled their lead. Hudson this time turning provider when he passed across the 18 yard box for Billy Bennett to place a shot beyond Rilwan Anibaba. Hudson and Aibangbee both had chances to increase the lead but neither opportunity was taken, and it remained 2-0 at the interval.
Whatever Danny Murphy said to his players at half-time had little time to be put into effect, as Sheppey scored a third within a minute of the restart – Bennett from just inside the 18 yard box turning provider for Hudson who turned well before dispatching a left foot shot into the roof of the goal.
Bennett was again on hand to assist Hudson on 62 minutes, a forward pass latched onto by the winger who went on to bag his hat-trick for 4-0 – the third Sheppey player after Bennett and Jack Midson to score a hat-trick this season. It was a quiet afternoon for Adam Molloy with the Deres barely having a worthwhile attempt on goal as Sheppey kept their 6th clean sheet in 7 games.
