"Tony Talks"
Good afternoon, I would like to welcome you all to Park View Road for this SCEFL fixture against Fisher. I hope that their management team, officials, and supporters enjoy their visit to Park View Road but not too much. Our last home fixture against Canterbury proved to be every bit as difficult as we knew it would be. They set up with 11 men behind the ball and showed no desire to win the game. I’m not criticising them for that at all, the onus was on us to break them down and win the game. We have found that to be the approach against a few teams we’ve played recently, and we must take our chances when they come to try and alter the opposition’s mindset. This forces them to come away from their rear-guard action and of course then allows for a more open, free flowing game. It doesn’t matter what level of football you’re playing at, it’s very difficult to break down a disciplined, well organised team that defends in numbers. We did create numerous chances in the first half but for one reason or another just couldn’t find the back of the net. The half time team talk was easy, more of the same but be more clinical in front of goal. Just when we were starting to think that it might be one of those days, Lewis Chambers popped up on his debut to break the deadlock with a great long-range strike. We added another and the game finished 2-0, another really important win and 3 points added to our total. With everyone around us winning, it really was a big win. I have to say, the character being shown by the players at the current time is excellent. They are dealing with what’s being presented to them really well. When we’ve been behind, they’ve stayed calm, carried on doing the right things and been rewarded for their efforts. This isn’t just down to the respective starting 11, the whole squad is full of quality and desire, and we will need every single one of them if we are to achieve our goals this season. We are under no illusions; Fisher will be an extremely tough nut to crack and whatever we get out of this game (if anything) will have been hard earnt. They have quality within their side that can undo you as we well know. They will be buoyed by their win last week, 3-1 is comfortable so they will be full of confidence coming into today’s game. One thing we know for certain is that we will treat this game the same as every other game, with total respect for the opposition. I hope that you enjoy the game today and we look forward to your loyal and continued support for the remainder of the season. Good luck to us!
